1932 – Delta Bessborough Hotel, Saskatoon, Canada
Architect: Archibald & Schofield
One of Canada’s grand railway hotels built for Canadian National Railway. Named after the 9th Earl of Bessborough, 14th Governor General of Canada. The hotel was initially designed by John S. Archibald, although John Schofield would take over after Archibald’s death. The building was designed in the by-then-traditional Château-style. The heavy use of the Château style on the early grand railway hotels in the country eventually led to its recognition as a distinctly Canadian architectural style by the 1920s. Completed in 1932 but not opened until 1935 due to the depression
