1928 – Nova Scotian Hotel, Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
One of the later railway hotels, and maybe lacking in the elaborate architectural features of some, the Nova Scotian Hotel was built by Canadian National Railway. Designed by Archibald & Schofield who also built the Bessborough Hotel in Saskatoon and the Hotel Vancouver for the railway.
Part of a complex which includes a new Halifax Railway Station and the Halifax Ocean Terminal, which included Pier 21, a trans-Atlantic Ocean liner passenger terminal. The hotel was directly connected by an interior walkway to the Halifax Railway Station and by an overhead walkway to Pier 21. The hotel had 130 rooms and five suites over eight storeys, and the Atlantic Ballroom could accommodate up to 275 dinner guests. Weeks away from demolition in the 1990s after being closed for several years, it was rescued and restored, and is still an hotel today.
