1919 – Munster & Leinster Bank, O’Connell St., Dublin
Architect: McDonnell & Dixon
Fine classical bank building turning a corner elegantly from O’Connell Street onto Abbey Street, constructed as part of the post 1916 redevelopment of the area. Their previous branch had been destroyed during Easter 1916. The relief sculpture over the door was by Albert G. Power (1881–1945). No longer in use as a bank, the upper floors are starting to look neglected.
The Building News of May 2 1917 reported that “The Munster and Leinster Bank, Limited contemplate spending £20,000 on their new premises in Lower Sackville Street, Dublin for which Mr. L.A. MacDonnell F.R.I.B.A., is the architect.”
