1917 – The Oval, Abbey Street, Dublin
Architect: McDonnell & Dixon
Rebuilt after the 1916 Rising, for J.J. Egan, wine & spirit merchants. A well known Dublin bar, the Oval has been refurbished inside, but the exterior remains intact. An unusual façade at street level is topped by a two storey bay window. Above this is the “oval” from which the bar gets its name, a large lunette opening in the façade. Strange.
