1916 – Merchants Bank of Canada, Kitchener, Ontario, Canada
Architect: Hogle & Davis
As at the Windsor branch by the same architects, the main aim of the design was to maximise the space for the banking hall. Built to three storeys to respect existing adjacent buildings and also with the object of renting the upper floors for offices. As the site was rectangular with a frontage to two streets, one was considered less important and so the bank entrance was placed in the centre of the principal facade King Street, with the office entrance on the side street, Queen Street. This gives a synmietrical plan a semi-circular marble counter in the centre with the vault doors in the rear. Demolished.
