Unconstructed investment project.

“Early in the spring, operations will be commenced on the Prudential Trust building, Winnipeg, plans for which have been prepared by Messrs. Ross and Macdonald, Montreal. The contract has been let to the Geo. A. Fuller Company, Limited, of Montreal and New York, and it is expected that the structure will be ready for occupation by the 1st of May, 1914. It is to occupy one of the most prominent sites in Winnipeg, at the intersection of Garry Street and Ellis Avenue, within an approximate radius of 200 yards of the business centre of the city, covering an area of about 6,000 square feet. The building is to be twelve stories in height, or approximately 160 feet above the street level and nothing but fireproof materials being used throughout. The structure itself is composed of steel, concrete, terra cotta, tile roof, stone, and the only non-fireproof materials used are those of the doors and finish around same, which are to be of selected oak. The corridor floors, wainscots, and the trim around all corridor doors are to be of Canadian marble. The stairways are to be constructed of marble and of iron, and materials of a non-fireproof nature have been almost entirely eliminated.

The exterior will be of Indiana limestone and granite, and the importance of the ground floor has been emphasised by a series of ornate arcade openings continuing around the building. On the two street fronts, between the arches, are single massive columns, giving the appearance of strength and solidity necessary to a building of this height

Three high speed passenger elevators are to be provided, with stairs from basement to roof, to afford ready transit and easy access to the different floors throughout the building. The total cost of the building and site complete, will amount to approximately $860,000

The structure is being erected by the Winnipeg Northern Realties, Limited, the directors of which are: Messrs. Jas. Playfair, of Midland, Ont.; B. Hal Brown, of Montreal; Jas. Carruthers, of Montreal; W. J. Morrice, of Montreal ; Henry Timmis, of Montreal; Geo. W. Head, of Winnipeg; A. R. McMaster, of Montreal, and F. H. Manley, of Montreal.”
