1913 – Édifice La Sauvegard, 150 Notre-Dame St. East, Montreal, Quebec

Architect: Saxe & Archibald

commercial-d

This 10-story skyscraper was La Sauvegarde Life Insurance Company headquarters, designed by Saxe & Archibald. With a three stage design – a large public office below the office floors, the cornice, and an attic floor above, it is very of the period in tall building design. Aside from the presence of the CPR Telegraph office which occupied the ground floor, the tenants of the building were almost entirely composed of French-Canadian companies. Acquired by Desjardins Life Assurance in 1962, and finally merged with La Sauvegarde in 1992. Renovated, 1980s, with the fantastic cornice restored in the early 2010s.
