1912 – Osborne Bascule Bridge, Winnipeg, Canada
Replacing the first bridge of 1881, this bridge was built as a wider, most substantial structure. The two large superstructures conceal counterbalances to open and close the bridge. On the night of April 12th, 1937, one of the 70-ton counterbalances crashed onto the bridge. The weights were later removed. Reconstructed in 1977.
