1911 – Canadian Bank of Commerce, Stratford, Ontario, Canada
Architect: Victor Daniel Horsburgh
“An example where the front is wholly erected of Bedford stone is seen in the branch at Stratford, Ontario. The banking room of this structure is very large and is top lighted, the upper floors being contained to a restrictive area at the front.”
A Classical Revival style building set into the streetscape, faced with Bedford stone from Bedford, Indiana. It featured fluted Doric columns and pilasters; a recessed entry; an entablature inscribed ‘The Canadian Bank of Commerce’. South-facing windows would have ensured plenty of light in the banking hall. Demolished.
