Designed by Irish architect William Wallace Blair, and originally configured as a mixed-use building of retail, offices, and residential. After only a couple of years it was altered to designs of architect Hugh G. Holman with an extra floor and converted into a hotel. Later refaced, and long a magnet for emergency services, closed in 2017, eventually demolished in 2020. At closure the interior still had original elements, most of which were rescued and relocated.
