1909 – Canadian Bank of Commerce, Rue St. Jacques, Montreal, Canada
Architect: Darling & Pearson
Magnificent Edwardian Baroque bank with a monumental hexastyle Corinthian portico behind which is a recessed façade of doors and windows. All carved in grey Stanstead granite from Stanstead in Quebec’s Eastern Townships. The interior is equally grandiose, no longer in use as a bank, it is now a high-end venue for private events.
The main offices for CIBC in Montreal left the building in 1962 when the Tour CIBC was completed, but remained an active branch until it was sold in 2010.
