1908 – Toronto World Building, Richmond Street, Toronto
Demolished in the early 1930s. The Toronto World was a newspaper that was published between 1880 and 1921, and a Sunday edition operated from 1891 to 1924.
“The Toronto World will soon have a new home. Mr. C.J. Gibson, architect, Toronto, has prepared plans and let the contracts for the erection of a seven-storey and basement building to be erected on Richmond street west on the property adjoining the Simpson building. The illustration accompanying this article shows that the building will be a handsome structure, well in keeping with the uses to which it will be put. It will be of fireproof construction, and of art stone. The basement will be used for the storage of paper and in it also will be located the boilers, dynamos, etc. The ground floor will contain the business offices and the press room. Th ^ later will be provided with large windows, so that the presses may be viewed from the street. The room will be lined with enamelled brick. The editorial rooms will be located on the first floor and the composing room on (he top floor. The intermediate floors will be devoted to offices. The stereotyping room will be on the press room floor. The building will contain a full complement of bathrooms, lavatories, etc., and there will be a shower bath on each floor. Electric elevators will be installed. The building will cost about $100,000.”
