This, the original Royal Bank of Canada branch at 10023 Jasper Avenue, which started operating in 1906, was knocked down in 1966.

“Designed by Mr. G. Kenneth Rea, architect, Montreal, this building will replace the old structure of the Royal Bank of Canada, Edmonton. The site is 50×75 ft. The front will be of granite, and the other walls brick with hollow terra cotta lining. The ground floor — with the ceiling 20 feet high — is to be occupied by the bank, and the remainder of the building will consist of offices and quarters for the janitor, the whole of the interior being finished in oak. The bank will be fireproof and will be fitted with fireproof doors and windows. There are to be steel-lined vaults. The contractors are Messrs. Purdy and Flenderson, of Vancouver and New York.”
