1905 – The Irish News, Nos 113-117 Donegall Street, Belfast, Ireland
Architect: John J. McDonnell
The Irish News is the main nationalist daily newspaper in Belfast, founded in 1891, so it was appropriate that they commissioned J.J. McDonnell who was a popular architect with the Catholic establishment. He designed many convents and buildings for the church across Ulster. The is a fine brick building with an elaborate cornice and parapet with semi-circular pediments over the end bays. In May 2023, the newspaper relocated from this premises to modern offices on College Street.
