1901 – House for Professor Sampson, Durham
Architect: G.H. Kitchin
“This house is about a mile out of Durham, and was built by the University Senate in connection with the Observatory. It had to be as inexpensive as possible, and is constructed of common local bricks of very poor colour. The walls and chimneys are roughcast and coloured pale yellow, the gutters &c.. are painted green, outside woodwork white. The roof is of red Crosley tiles. The plans were arranged to suit the occupier. “
