1901 – Giltbrook Almshouses, Nottingham
Architect: A.R. Calvert
Selected design after a competition, published in The Building News, April 5 1901. “These drawings illustrate the selected design in the recent competition. It is intended to use red sand-faced bricks for the lower story and rough-cast, lime-whitened, for the upper parts of the walls, using red Broseley tiles for the roofs. The perspective shows two of the blocks placed at right angles one to the other, forming a quad. The plans show the arrangements of the houses, but there is a slight modification as an alternative given in the contrivance of the bays to the ground-floor rooms.”
