1896 – Lennon House, 195 Kennedy Street, Winnipeg
Architect: Charles H. Wheeler
House desiged for local businessman D.T. Lennon. With the ending of the Hudson’s Bay Company land rights in Western Canada, 465 acres of land around Upper Fort Garry was assigned to the company as the Hudson’s Bay Company Reserve. As the city expanded, this land was sold off for building lots, many of which became large houses in the streets leading off Assiniboine Avenue. A surviving example of this is Dalnavert House on Carlton Street, by the same architect Charles H. Wheeler. There still exists a few houses mostly hidden by commercial development.
