Cottage hospital funded by philanthropist Passmore Edwards. The Passmore Edwards Cottage Hospital was officially opened in 1895 by Mrs Passmore Edwards. Built entirely with the financial support of the Passmore Edwards Foundation at the cost of £2,000. It was designed as a small brick, tile-hung building and contained 8 beds. The medical staff consisted of 12 local GPs, one consulting surgeon and one dentist. A substantial extension was built in 1922, when the Hospital had 52 beds, including 6 rooms for private patients. In 1948 the Hospital joined the NHS. It closed in 1983 and later demolished..
