1894 – Maryland Bridge, Winnipeg, Canada
Open steel truss bridge across the Assiniboine River. The bridge was largely constructed to open up the lands south of the river, now Crescentwood for development. In 1915 the city of Winnipeg proposed a new war memorial bridge. The bridge suffered from stability issues towards the end of its life – street car service was suspended in June 1920 – and a ban was put in place on heavy traffic and street cars crossing the bridge. Demolished in 1921 when a replacement concrete bridge was constructed alongside.
