The selected design for the new museum now known as the Victoria & Albert Museum or V&A. Queen Victoria laid the foundation stone of the Aston Webb building on 17 May 1899.[21] It was during this ceremony that the change of name from ‘South Kensington Museum’ to ‘Victoria and Albert Museum’ was made public. The opening ceremony for the Aston Webb building by King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra took place on 26 June 1909. Published in The Building News, August 14th 1891.
