The LNWR had its own architect and architectural draughtsmen who were employed in the Engineering Department, and their headquarters was designed in-house. The Architectural Assistant to Chief Engineer between 1852 and 1886 was a J.B. Stansby, who designed their headquarter building and various other buildings including the lodges at Euston Station. It was the largest company in the world on the stock market at the time. Finished externally in Portland Stone.
