1887 – Constitutional Club Buildings, Scarborough, Yorkshire
Architect: H.A. Cheers
Now home to the Scarborough Conservative Club, the club was purpose built as Scarborough Constitutional Club. The foundation stone was laid on Friday 20th January 1888 by the Rt. Hon. Earl of Feversham. Former gentleman’s club affiliated with the Conservative Party, designed by Henry A Cheers, built 1888 in picturesque mixed Tudor and Baroque style. Up until the early 60’s women were not allowed into the Club, the rules were then changed and the Club became ‘Scarborough Conservative Club’ but women were only allowed access to the upstairs lounge.
