A Dublin landmark, on the corner of Exchequer and South Great Georges Streets, the Central Hotel was opened in 1887. Extended several times in the early 20th century, the building is designed with separate retails units at street level. This was similar to the Imperial Hotel on O’Connell Street that was sited above Clery & Co. The retail shopfront are characterised by muscular detailing with a continuous fascia between pedimented pilasters.
