1883 – Design for National Museum, Dublin

One of the entries to design a new National Museum and Library around Leinster House, then belonging to the Royal Dublin Society. The results of the original architecture competition were scrapped after it was found out that all the placed entrants were “minor” English architects. This design by Sir Thomas Drew made the shortlisted final five in the Second Competition, finishing second. Thomas Newenham Deane was selected as architect.
“With the present issue we publish a perspective view of one of the premiated designs buildings. It has been photo litho from the original drawing sent by Mr Thomas Drew RHA, St Stephen’s Green. From an announce to building contractors, it will be seen that some progress has been made towards forwarding the works site in Kildare street is being cleared by Goodfellow contractors.” The Irish Builder, March 1 1885.
