1880 – Union Bridge, Lisburn, Co. Antrim

Union Bridge crosses the River Lagan in Lisburn, between the town centre on the western bank in Co. Antrim and the suburbs in Co. Down on the east bank. Alongside Lisburn Harbour, Union Bridge was built in 1880 replacing an earlier bridge. The harbour had nine quays and in its hey-day would have been a very busy business location. There was one public quay owned by the Lagan Navigation Company which was for general cargo including coal for the gasworks. The underside of the three elliptical archways were lined with redbrick. It has now been widened to one side.
