Design for the head office of the historic private bank of Child & Co. The firm had used the same property since 1673 and with road widening in 1880, a new premises was needed. Designed by John Gibson at the same site, it varies from the design illustrated above. The firm was sold in 1924 and eventually ended up as part of Williams & Glyn’s Bank in 1969. Williams and Glyn’s Bank was fully integrated into The Royal Bank of Scotland in 1985. The branch at 1 Fleet Street was closed in 2022.
