1877 – Warehouse, Nos. 25-27 Wellington Place, Belfast

Architect: John Lanyon

0814

Replaced by an office building circa 1965.
“This warehouse is four storeys in height, with an additional storey at top lighted from the roof, and has a frontage of 81 feet to Wellington Place and 90 feet to Queen’s Street. The materials used in these two fronts are red sandstone from the Dundonald Quarries, which are about three miles distant from Belfast, and cream-coloured bricks from Aston, Flintshire. The lower storey, to the height of the first floor window cills, is of red sandstone, and all the cills, strings, and window, heads, the main cornice, parapet plinth and coping, and chimney bases and caps, are of the same material, the colour of which contrasts remarkably well with that of the brick work. The entrance to the offices, as may be seen from our illustration, is in the canted angle which has been formed at the junction of the two streets which the building fronts, thereby making the access to offices, equally direct from both thoroughfares. The work has been carried out in a very satisfactory manner by Mr. James Henry, builder, from the designs and under the superintendence of Mr. Lanyon, F.R.I.B.A.” The Architect, March 10 1877
