1872 – Main Building, Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey
Architect: Philip Charles Hardwick
The school moved to its present site in 1872 by the then headmaster, William Haig Brown, and bought a 68-acre site atop a hill just outside Godalming. In addition to the main school buildings designed by architect Philip Charles Hardwick, they constructed three boarding houses at the time for pupils. Built as a quadrangle, open on west side, with a bell-tower to centre of central range, the original school chapel formed the right wing with boarding accommodation in left wing. Many later additions including the Great Hall of 1884, by Sir Arthur Blomfield. Grade II listed.
