Now converted into the town library, this fine building was constructed as the Sullivan National School in 1862 by Lanyon, Lynn, & Lanyon. Sullivan Lower School (equivalent to a primary school in modern terminology) was founded in 1862 by Robert Sullivan. After Sullivan’s death in 1868, part of his estate was used to establish the upper school. Originally the two schools were based in this building on Holywood’s High Street. The clocktower and a large hall were added around 1877 in the same polychomatic brick but by Young & Mackenzie. Completely refurbished in 1992.
