Proposed alterations to the 16-arch masonry Shannonbridge of 1757, which included a new opening section. Rhodes was responsible for other work on the Shannon navigation including the bridge at Athlone. The original brige of which most remains is one of the oldest bridges still in use over the River Shannon.
