1819 – Unbuilt Designs for Dublin Library Society

Architect: George Papworth

2925

2926

Originally the Dublin Library Society intended to erect their new premises on lots 5, 6, and 7 D’Olier St., which was being laid out by the Wide Streets Commission. The first elevation was approved by the Commission at its meeting on 29 July 1818. This clearly proved a little too expensive for the Society and they requested a shorter frontage to D’Olier St., and this necessitated the preparation of a fresh elevation by Papworth, which was submitted to the Commission in September 1818. A third design submitted in December 1819 was constructed.
