Believed to have been built to replace an earlier and similar structure, as John Rocque’s map of 1757 shows a market house in the same location. Dating from the early 19th century, it is a freestanding single-storey building originally with round-headed open arcade to ground floor. In 1951 the building was purchased by Kildare County Council and converted to a bus station and public toilets to provide a viable means of maintaining and preserving the building. Renovated circa 2000 for offices.
