1811 – Former Central Bank, Foster Place, Dublin
Architect: Francis Johnston
The former Central Bank building is sited at the end of Foster Place. A simple classical style, the building has an excellent and vigourously sculpted coat-of-arms over the central entrance. The building was remodelled by G. & T. Crampton in 1928-1930 as the Currency Commission. The principal architect of these works was Architect T.J. Byrne of the Office of Public Works. Until recently the Bank of Ireland Art Centre, and afterwards a tawdry tourist attraction. In late 2016, planning permission was granted for redevelopment of this listed building with an office addition to the rear for the Irish Stock Exchange.
