1805 – Government House, Halifax, Nova Scotia

Architect: Isaac Hildreth

0020.jpg

Reminiscent of a small Irish or English late 18th century country house, Government House’s overall style is one of Georgian with hints of Adam in its decoration. Constructed between 1799 and 1805 under the superintendence of architect-builder Isaac Hildrith. It has been suggested that elements of the main and rear facades are from a book of house plans published in 1795 by George Richardson, a former employee of Robert and James Adam.
