Skerries has a long tradition of harnessing wind and water power, and in the period 1821 to 1839 two working windmills are recorded. The mill with its waterwheel and two windmills have been restored giving the town a unique feature of a working wind and waterpower heritage centre. The Great Windmill dates from around 1750 and was restored in 1995.
