1590s – Eastgate House, Rochester, Kent

Grade I Listed, Elizabethan townhouse was built in the late 1590s for Sir Peter Buck, who was Clerk of the Cheque at Chatham’s Royal Dockyard and Mayor of Medway.

“The old half-timbered house from Rochester, which we illustrate to-day, is Elizabethan or Jacobean in style and date ; it is situated at the eastern end of the principal street of the town, and nearly opposite a splendid block of buildings of similar date, now used as shops, a view of which we published a few years back.” Published in The Building News, September 20 1881.
