Sight Lines needed?

Looking at buying an old house on 1 acre in rural area in Mayo with view to building large extension to back.It hasn't been occupied for years. Only problem the entrance gate is very close to a bend on road and good sight lines can NOT be achieved... would this affect our chance of getting planning for an extension??? or is sight lines only for new houses?
