quick question - should i turn them on, or are they visually annoying

Aren't they on already? Shane Warne certainly seems to think so!
Although, given the new, cleaner look of the site, perhaps they should be turned off.

Not sure if i like them either, can be fairly messy visually and kind of implies more trivial comment to me (depending on what people use of course but somebody is bound to throw an animated he-man icon in there somewhere

Yup. That's him up there under my name. I suspect my frivolity may be my undoing!
Which is to say, I'd probably prefer to go without, if eejits like me are going to do things like that.
