Alvaro Siza wins RIBA Royal Gold Medal
Just been announced.
Personally, he's not one of my favourites, but he's respected enough
Looking at the list of past winners, I'm surprised Daniel Leibeskind, David Chipperfield, I.M Pei or Zaha Hadid haven't won it yet.
I would have liked Peter Zumpthor or Future Systems to win, but I suppose neither of them have enough built yet.
Any irish architects worthy of it? The only person I could see getting it, is Kevin Roche, although he's lived and worked in the US for 50 years. Possibly Ronnie Tallon, although he might be out of consideration, since Michael Scott won it.

About time too. Siza is an incredible architect in the flesh. early projects in particular.
You have to be alive to win the RIBA gold medal. Only Irish runners would be O'Donnell + Tuomey or Graftons possibly. but neither have high enough international profile to do it.
My vote is for Balkrishna Doshi next year.
