Patrick's Bridge - Lights - Why aren't they fixed?

I've noticed that the lights on St. Patrick's Bridge are in a terrible state of disrepair. They appear to be some kind of fairly crude looking affair that was possibly added in the latter half of the 20th century. However, they're in a dire state of repair. Some of the lanterns have clear glass, some have frosted glass, others seem to have missing glass.
Various parts of the pole seem to be propped up with string too!

Is there no plan to fix these at some stage or replace them with something a little less of an eye sore?

Also it looks like the end lights on the northside of the bridge were removed and traffic lights were very crudely bolted on. There's what looks like a large metal duct bolted on where a lantern used to stand this then connects to a separate traffic light which is mounted into the pavement. It's as if someone used the ducting for the bridge lights to carry traffic light wiring. It looks terrible !

It's a nice bridge, even if it's in need of a good cleaning, however it's a shame to spoil it with decrepit light fittings.

I just hope they're not planning to put some horrible modern fittings up to blend in with the new look Patrick street or something....

They've been like that for a good while now. To my knowledge the last time the lights were fixed were in 1999 when the city council funded a lighting up the bridges scheme in advance of the millenium celebrations. Unfortunately vandalism seems to be away of life for some of our citizens by the Lee.

Ah yes we had this sitatuion on O'Connell Bridge for near on ten years, don't worry, you've probably only another five to wait before Cork CC get the finger out & do something about the most important bridge in Cork City

They were not fixed for the European City of Culture 2005 so why would they bother now ?

Parliament Bridge's lights were restored a few years ago and look great.

It's in a sorry state. I reckon this is one of the ugliest vistas in Cork. The quays on either side are pretty much totally destroyed.
Patrick's Quay's just a mess and Merchant's Quay's an absolute eyesore.

Oddly enough it looks quite nice the other direction!
