New college in gothic collegiate
The site lies at the downslope end of a line of dormitory blocks from the first half of the last century, a collegiate gothic fringe extending along the campusâ€™s western boundary. Having decided that the new building should read as a continuation of this condition, the university invited
16 architects experienced in working with traditional architectural vocabularies to enter a design competition. It was won by Demetri Porphyrios, whose neogothic Grove Quadrangle at Magdalen College in Oxford suggested his particular suitability for the job.
