Re: Park Av with no cars
Im pretty sure that is a fake!
Park Avenue was never a park,
I think that manhattan was mostly farms, streams and a generally rural place before the massive grid system was ploughed in.
This grid didnt just grow outwards (northwards) slowly as was needed, it was all built as a masterplan
Remarkable vision/balls:D

You could be right, for example, it wasn't named park avenue until the 50s.

Its a nice idea, actually at the moment the mayor is trying his best ,against stiff opposition, to introduce a toll for vehicles to enter manhattan south of 86st. The London system is the inspiration

Re: Park Av with no cars
I assume the naming of Park Av had something to do with its proximity to Central Park ?

Re: Park Av with no cars
Actually, no, Park Avenue was so named in 1860, it was Park Av S that was renamed in the 50s and, yes, it was named Park Av because it had a Park, or at least a garden, originally the railway ran along Park and when some was put underground Gardens where installed above, at least in the mid 30s. It still has a meridian with flowers for some of its length. In short, the picture I linked is likely to be genuine.
