Converting 2 semi detached bungalows into 1.

Do any of you know if that requires planning, there will be no elevational changes just one internal wall to be removed.
The bungalows are located in Co. Durham

I know in Ireland that would amount to the removal of 1 housing unit and therefore would require permission . I would be surprised if it's any different in the UK
