Midway between Galway and Dublin

Hi,

Wondering if anyone would know of a place between galway and dublin where i could check out some historic ruins, old landlord houses etc.

I would do two sites neither of which are midway but both are between Dublin and Galway.

For Historic ruins I would do the town of Athenry and for a 'Great House' I would do Belvedere House near Mullingar

Belvedere House with its Jealous Wall, The castle at Athlone, and then theres the castle at Portumna, Charleville Forest at Tullamore, and of course,
Clonmacnoise
