Red Road Flats - Architect
I am looking for any information on the Architect, Sam Bunton, and his practice, Sam Bunton & Assciates which I believe were based in Bath Street Glasgow originally.
I know that they were famous / infamous for the Red Road flats, that they completed some housing schemes in Clydebank and some work on Glasgow Airport.
What other buildings were designed by the practice and especially does anyone have any knowledge of Sam Bunton's early work circa 1938- 1948, in particular single one-off houses?
Many Thanks.

Buildings of Scotland Glasgow volume mentions Bunton's "Lighting Department" of 1937-9 at 15 Millbrae Road - very Modern Movement, apparently. No other pre-war stuff of his noted.

You should try to get yr hands on a copy of Rebuilding Scotland- it has a whole chapter about Sam Bunton and the creation of Glasgow's high flats...
http://www.birlinn.co.uk/scottishbooks/R/RebuildingScotl-189841033X.shtml
There's also some useful stuff in Glendinning's other book about Tower Blocks...
http://www.allbookstores.com/book/0300054440
And I'll bet that at least one of the (M)acolytes at Glasgow's school of architecture will have done a dissertation on Bunton.
Hope that's helpful.

Hi Wolfie,
Thanks too for the links, i'll give those a try too. I hadn't thought of looking in the GSA for a dissertation, you're right, there probably is one.
