How do you define a 'Modern American Style House' Golconda?
Are your referring to houses of the modern movement (not simply American)? Or are you referring to the sort of neo-vernacular of American films and TV shows?

There are some lovely American colonial-style houses along the Western Road. Red brick, copper roofing with the old-style white porch fronts along their own private cul-de-sac called Annaville - built in the 1930s. There are 6 of them, each with the same basic design but with varying characteristics like larger balconies or a rounded porch etc. The small little estate is across the road from the Castlewhite Student Village.

On the other hand when thinking of modern Cork houses there is DIrk Cove by Niall McLaughlin architects:

Also, the Weekend house in Kinsale or the Boat House in Skibbereen

Also, you might want to check out the old American consular office in Cobh. Quite a striking location on the hill overlooking the train station and harbour. Would be a stunning location site. Dates from the time of the transatlantic liner trade in Cobh. Lex or someone else will have to fill you on the style as I have no idea.

Re: American Style Houses in Cork
The houses we are looking for is exactly the neo-vernacular of American films and TV shows. The picture of the house in Annadale is good but we are looking specifically for a larger detached house at least 3,000 sq ft and at least 1 acre of garden. Maybe with swimming pool or tennis court and in the West Cork area.
We've checked out the old American Consular Office in Cobh and taking a look at Dirk Cove..... any more suggestions are really welcome!
Thanks for all the help!

Now that you have clarified what it is you are looking for I dont think the Dirk Cove house is suitable, but have a look at that link and article to decide for yourself.
Good luck with it.

There are 2 properties in Millcove, Rosscarbery, one of which is right beside the water, and has a swimming pool, the other which is elevated above the water and has a tennis court. Both are detached and definitely meet the acre requirement, well secluded too. The one with the swimming pool is probably more the style you seem to be advocating.
If they're not quite what you're looking for, I suggest trying either Glandore or Schull, some fine properties there, esp. on the Colla Road in Schull.
