So whats the general opinion of Shay Clearys approach to the redevelopment of the building?

Not much - it just looks like a 60s block encased in glass (as if to preserve it, like a Museum exhibit) and a miniture version of the Spencer Dock Conference centre next to it.

Boo hiss I say. How about start again with something different.

I don't like it. I saw another image in which the window mullions are much more visible and it looked like it jhad been clad in metal work to protect the glass.

Not pretty.

What's the view on the proposed renovation of Cork County Hall and the "conservationists" objections, quoted from today's Irish Times

An unusual sight struck me today as I head toward the western Cork suburbs. The sun was setting, but its rays were still beaming through the broken cloud - just like those pretty Summer days we all long for during the Winter. Looking up to that old reliable sight, Cork County Hall, I noticed something different - as part of the tower's redevelopment, it is being refitted with a glass outer-shell of heat responsive tilting-windows. When the temperature is too hot, the panels open and allow cool air circulated throughout the building. Too cold? The panels shut and allow trapped air gradually heat - with the proper ventilation of course.

For the first time in living memory, the sunset was shining through County Hall undisturbed. Gaps in the building, as existing windows have been removed, allow a free space east-to-west of open air.

If anyone gets an image of this odd sight - post it up!

any sign of dublin's liberty hall to be redeveloped? i've never heard anything.

Note the installation of new windows, over which an outer layer (shell) of climatic responsive panels will be positioned. The building is being deconstructed floor by floor - then reinstalled, as evident in image above. Also see above the construction of a new 'hospitality suite' on the roof. This will increase the buildings height slightly.

The job aims to get from the above, to this (below) by November 2005.
