Oporto's New Metro

Postby Paulo2005 » Fri Jan 28, 2005 2:53 am

Oporto's city new metro in Portugal was inaugurated in July 2004. Works proceed on new lines. One of them will link the city centre with Oporto's new international airport.

Here's a couple of the pictures I took last year. See what I mean about the trams stop being dominated by the equipment. The locals actually stand on the seats to get out of the rain !

The second picture is of one of the underground stations. Note the use of the Architects sketch drawings to decorate the walls. The station was only partially finished with a proposed overhead development being constructed behind the wall.

Like the look of the trams and those green open tracks, though.

While it looks very nice and a good service, it is a tram or a 'light metro' in this case.

This is highly likely that Dublin will be getting one. The RPA have been giving hints that their Metro North and West will be a 'light metro' (ie a tram) and not a heavy rail metro that most people think of a metro like New York, Sydeny, Madrid for example.
