Archiseek, the next version

Planning a rebuild of the site, probably around the end of the year. This will include an update of the forum software (and possibly a new faster server). Probably will also include a new look and feel as this particular design path has reached the end of the road....

Any requests for features or areas?

paul, gotta say, you do a great job here; this is an easy-to-use site and one of the best architectural portals i know of.

what about building up a library of contributor's articles or summat like that?

A nice idea but here is something I have found.... no everyone who thinks they can write, can actually write or keep producing columns...

on p45 we used to have lots of witty people who could write long amusing posts, but once they had a blog or a column, could only grind one out at best every few weeks to a month....

Over the next few weeks, you may notice the odd broken link as I replace the existing look and feel across the site.

I'm intending branding the entire site as archiseek.com including what is currently branded as archeire.com for consistancy

The new layout is simply a further development of the designs used since 1996, but a bit cleaner and with the current navigation simplified.

There will also be a few new areas including, wait for it... Uruguay....

Fair play there is nothing like expanding the parameters, I just love 1920's commercial architecture and Montevideo is up there with the best of them. Any thoughts of putting Buenos Aires in there as well?

You wouldn't have to publish every article you receive. If there was even one good article published every few weeks (not by the same person), it could be worthwhile.

Would it be possible to index the photos in more than one way? At the moment they are arranged by location (country, city, street). It would be useful to also index them by style, period or architect.

I like the geographical nature of it - it makes the site scaleable whereas categorisation by style would be seriously cumbersome. You can use the search to find buildings by a specific architect. When the initial results come up, you can narrow down the search to a particular root, ie you can search only in "news" archives or in the "building of ------" area

I've upgraded the forum software tonight... it will require some tweaking to get the settings and the visual appearance of it to what i would like...

I didn't think the forum could have been improved as most of the quality has always been the variety of opinions given an airing on this forum, but the new look is faster, brighter and has much more information.

evrything that you had to navigate around the site around for is now on every page. The only glitch is that I can't find the polls section.

the polls have been reincorporated back into relevant forums....
as per your suggestion that we can comment on the polls, polls can be run inside the forums for future voting and comment - i'll endevour to highlight the more interesting ones on the homepage...

re javascript drop boxes, i'll have to cure that for firefox.... but more interesting in getting the whole site updated first....

I noticed that after I had posted and it will make for a much more interactive experience going forward, I also really like the new ms word format for posts although if I bothered to get a new mouse it would probably be more use to me, using the tab bar really improves typing speed.

Any chance that when you click on the desired Thread - you would be immediately redirected to the last port on that thread as opposed to be redirected to the First Page every time? I know on the side bar of the Content page there is a list of most recently posted threads - but on the main Content selection - could the above suggestion be implemented please???
