'I think Lotte Glob should win cause it's such a brilliant name for a house....like a kid's plaything all dripping and bouncy and slippery....mould it into anything you like, really. Got an alien life form inside it or a baby dinosaur'
Was an excellent programme. very well presented, structured. far better than RIBA-live-from......
All the buildings looked great.
Those steel rod details on the grotty lob haus - wow! v nice indeed. With no offence to Blast Architecture intended i say the following - this is the house Blast couldn't build for it's Grand Design clients - remember?
but what's with the absence of the architects? i think the public should be presented with a face or four, humanise the profession no?
And why o why o y o y o why do architeks have to say the w o r d
whenever on TV?
The only time architects use this word is when they address the public. they never use it among themselves.
Never, I tell you.
And anyone else notice that the unmistakably tough Glasgow guy Gordon Murray was actually scared throughout most of the programme: every building on the list he approached with trepadation, fearing it would be shit. Luckily however, he was pleasantly surprised each time and the fear abated. Skinda like those panic attacks Tony has in the Soprano’s – cept GM getsem when a shit building is near.
McMillan was concise as usual, "there's real merit in that thar roof!' - he said with wild west sheriff-like authority. (smiley, here too). Funnily enough, the same could be said of his own cardross seminary building. Mainly cos that's all that's left of the thing.
Malky the Fraser - "it looks good in the rain" comment may have won him many new admirers, but the facial grimace pulled during the utterances wouldn't have looked out of place with a rubber tyre framing it. Strangley, however, he made no mention of his favourite hip hop tracks. (do we really need smileys when we're just having a laugh?)
And the finnish guy? - typical euro-prof: second floor, every arch. dept throughout UK. respected (but nobody really know by who) but utterly boring.
And of course, the voice: was a bit cheeky, a bit knowing. Was the same voice that related the tale of glasgow’s tall buildings earlier this year. (or was it last?) sexier than mccloud anyway.
Oh man – hope youse is all down low wid me on this one – juss havin me some fun bhoyeeeee…
